Mace’s ambitious growth plan needed world-class managers. Here’s how they built them.

Challenge:

Mace is an international consultancy and construction company, founded and built on exceptional people, a commitment to service excellence and a deep-rooted entrepreneurial spirit. They employ over 5,000 people across five global hubs, with a turnover of £1.97bn. They develop, consult, construction and operate some of the world’s most inspiring projects and programmes.

In FY13 Mace broke the 1bn revenue barrier, and set themselves the ambitious goal of becoming a 2bn revenue business by 2020. They knew that talent held the key to growth, and that management would be an important area to focus on to drive value.

Solution:

Mind Gym created a globally scalable program tailored to Mace’s management competencies to deliver their team of approximately 1500 managers. We created a three-hour module for each competency (ranging from Goal Setting to Courageous Conversations) that was offered both face-to-face and virtually to ensure that every manager could access the training.

Results:

The program got great feedback from participants and that was supported by the statistics:

99% will use what they have learnt back in their roles.
98% would recommend the program to a friend
97% felt the content was relevant to them

Awards:

The Mace program was the overall Winner of Excellence in Learning and Development category at Construction Investing in Talent Awards. They beat out nine other programs to take home the top prize in 2017.
