Cinema has the Oscars, advertising has the Cannes Lions and restaurants have Michelin stars. But for organizations that have demonstrated the highest levels of excellence in internal communications, there is one award that matters more than the rest.
The Grand Prix Award is the most prestigious trophy bestowed by the Institute of Internal Communication (IoIC) and in 2020 they found the transformative partnership between Mind Gym, Lloyds Banking Group and ICF Next to be the most deserving.
The ‘Your Best’ campaign scooped both the Grand Prix Award and the ‘Game Changer’ award for work that has championed fresh thinking and reimagined the art of the possible.
The key to success was that both Mind Gym and Lloyds understood that successful transformation is about changing behavior, not systems. For Lloyds this meant jettisoning the dreaded annual review and the perfunctory paperwork that traditionally goes with it.
In its place, a new behavioral programme was built around Mind Gym’s six conditions for high performance, applied in regular ‘Check-ins’. A shift in mindset was stimulated by immersive learning bootcamps involving over 70,000 people across the UK.
The changes meant managers at Lloyds spent 60% less time buried in appraisal paperwork and more time coaching their teams to build a culture of performance. No wonder that 89% of Lloyds colleagues found the new approach created a positive experience, compared to just 20% in 2018.
