TIAA had a strong track record for valuing diversity. Since 1918, the financial services company has stood behind the idea that you have to be different to make a difference.
However, TIAA would soon learn that in order to get more out of its diverse teams, attract better talent from diverse populations, and to increase emotional expressiveness amongst leaders, they’d have to match that level of diversity with a culture of inclusion.
Mind Gym created a 5-week program (ranging from Workouts like Storytelling and Lead Inclusively) that cascaded inclusivity to over 13,000 professionals, starting with the CEO all the way to the individual contributor. Mini-missions, a ‘Nice Bucket Challenge’, and a #whatwouldyoudo campaign to train employees how to appropriately handle ‘exclusion’ in a range of scenarios were just a few of the Activation techniques used to transform performance.
The TIAA ‘Journey to inclusion’ program won the bronze award from the Brandon Hall Group for ‘Unique or Innovative Learning and Development program’ and also a silver award from Chief Learning Officer for ‘Excellence in content’ in 2017.
